ALRUD bets on custom AI-solutions for legal practice

On 24 April, 2025, Kommersant published an article “Contents to be trusted” devoted to introduction of and challenges faced by artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal sphere. It is emphasized in the article that AI is a useful tool for speeding up the lawyers’ work.

Sergey Khanaev, ALRUD Partner, Advocate, who is responsible for AI and Legal Tech development at the firm emphasized that AI is to be considered an assistant, and not a replacement for a lawyer:

We are not saying: "AI vs. the lawyer", we are saying: "AI is to assist the lawyer". It is important to realize that anyway it is the lawyer who bears ultimate responsibility for any document and any decision. Artificial intelligence is not a person, it is not responsible for its output. Artificial intelligence is a tool which speeds up work but cannot replace the professional expertise. Any error in a legal document can cost millions or even billions, that is why supervision by a specialist is obligatory.

ALRUD sees the future of legal practice in using AI as a tool for enhancing efficiency but puts the focus on development of proprietary solutions in order to ensure confidentiality and maintain a high level of legal expertise.

Public models such as ChatGPT are not suitable for legal tasks. They do not guarantee privacy, and what is more – they often malfunction outputting incorrect information.
